Position Overview:       
The full-time contract Senior Technical Writer is responsible for authoring and editing technical documentation for Web APIs used by software developers within and outside the company.
 
Job Responsibilities
Create technical documentation for multiple audiences by:
Working with engineers to author technical materials from scratch
Editing technical materials to high standards
Organizing and prioritizing content to meet audience needs
Working closely with subject matter experts to ensure technical accuracy
Adjusting the above efforts appropriately, according to the project goals and schedule constraints
Keeping project management informed of progress via regular updates
Required Knowledge / Skills:
People: Skilled, personable, and professional in interactions with subject matter experts and other colleagues.
 
Process:
Experienced with industry-standard structured writing principles.
Skilled in organization, communication, research, and time management.
 
Technical:
Comfortable with REST APIs and tools used to call them (e.g. CURL)
Able to write sample HTTP requests to REST APIs using CURL
Experienced user of Microsoft Word, including change tracking and review features
Familiar with content management and version control systems such as GitHub, Subversion
Familiar with work tracking and reporting tools such as Jira, Confluence etc.
Planning/implementation:
Skilled and experienced with project schedule estimation and planning
 
Qualifications:
At least 5 years' experience creating technical documentation for a software-developer audience.
Solid experience documenting REST or other Web-based APIs
Desired Experience / Education:
Familiarity with Agile processes, tools and methods

Working Conditions:
Full-time contract.
Primarily on-site at the SIE San Francisco location.  Some work from home may be possible.
