Global Power + Renewable Energy Giant Reduces On-Prem Costs

Moving applications from on-premises data centers to a cloud environment requires coordinated planning across infrastructure, security, operations, and customer-facing services. Organizations need the right technical resources and risk-management capabilities to carry out the transition while maintaining operational continuity and preparing customers for changes to digital offerings.

One of the world’s largest power and renewable energy companies needed support to move applications to the cloud. The transition included decommissioning existing servers, introducing stronger security protocols, and helping current customers understand the company’s new cloud offerings.

Coordinating Cloud Onboarding, Infrastructure, and Risk

The Challenge

One of the world’s largest names in power and renewable energy required the resources, talent, and planning assistance needed to shift its applications out of on-premises data centers and into a cloud environment. The transition required decommissioning old servers, introducing stronger security protocols, and running an awareness campaign to help current customers understand the scope of the company’s new cloud offerings.

These requirements spanned several connected areas: preparing client-site infrastructure, coordinating application integration, working across network and security teams, optimizing customer-facing digital resources, and managing risk in virtual and cloud-adjacent environments. The client needed coordinated expertise to support the migration and help its business units adopt the new environment.

The Solution

Deploying Cross-Functional Expertise for Cloud Onboarding

The Solution

Aditi deployed a Remote Access Manager, a Technical Project Manager, a Cloud Engineer and Analyst, and a Senior IT Risk Leader with project-management competencies to assist the client with the migration and support project completion. Each role addressed a distinct but connected part of the transition.

  • Remote Access Manager: During decommissioning, this individual oversaw and allocated the resources needed to build client-site infrastructure. The role included planning and implementing strategies for application integration and related components, requiring an understanding of the legal and technical requirements for the environment to function.
  • Technical Project Manager: This role worked alongside multiple functional teams, including Information Security—which managed Access Control Lists (ACLs) between the cloud and internal infrastructure—as well as Network Engineering and Operations, application owners, QA testing, and DevOps. In addition to supporting team productivity, the individual helped establish internal processes for continuous monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of critical machinery and IT infrastructure.
  • Cloud Engineer and Analyst: This role assessed customer-facing resources and provided solutions to optimize the computing environment, including what customers could accomplish, access, and submit digitally.
  • Senior IT Risk Leader: This role worked with advanced virtualization in corporate computing and supported Aditi’s and the client’s project managers in mitigating security risks. It also helped determine risk thresholds for the company’s virtual and cloud-adjacent environments, considering security risks present in the industry at the time.

Business Outcomes

Cloud Onboarding Support Across Business Units

The client achieved optimization and maturation of its key cloud-onboarding processes, supporting a shift to a cloud environment across all of its business units. Coordinated remote access management, technical project management, cloud engineering, and IT risk leadership addressed the operational and technical requirements of the transition.

The work gave business units greater autonomy and functionality during the digital transition and helped lay a foundation for growth and innovation. It also helped the client streamline mission-critical IT processes and reduce costs associated with its on-premises data center.

What Changed

The client received coordinated support across infrastructure planning, application integration, access controls, cloud engineering, customer-facing digital resources, and IT risk management. This cross-functional model supported the maturation of cloud-onboarding processes across business units and helped prepare the organization to operate in a cloud environment while addressing security and operational needs.
